What is IV Hydration Therapy?

Most people have had an IV drip in hospital at some point — after surgery, during illness, or in an emergency. What's changed is that the same clinical technology is now available outside of hospital, in a private clinic setting, for people who are well but want to feel better.

IV hydration therapy delivers a sterile fluid solution directly into your bloodstream through a small cannula in the forearm. The fluids bypass your digestive system entirely and reach your cells within minutes. The result is rehydration that is faster and more complete than anything you can drink.

How It Works

When you drink water, your body absorbs a fraction of it. The rest is filtered through your digestive system, distributed unevenly, and often lost before it reaches the cells that need it most. Absorption rates for oral fluids vary widely depending on gut health, stress levels, and what else is in your system.

IV hydration bypasses all of that. A sterile isotonic solution — balanced to match your body's own fluid composition — is delivered directly into the bloodstream via a peripheral IV line. Absorption is 100%. There is no gut barrier, no metabolic processing delay, and no uncertainty about how much your body actually received.

The cannula used is small — a fine-gauge needle placed in a superficial vein in the forearm. In experienced hands, this is a comfortable, precise process.

Who Benefits Most

IV hydration therapy isn't just for people who are unwell. The clients who tend to benefit most are:

  • People recovering from illness, surgery, or a physically demanding period
  • Anyone experiencing persistent fatigue or brain fog that sleep doesn't resolve
  • Clients with reduced gut absorption — those with digestive conditions or who have been unable to eat and drink normally
  • People who want to support their skin, energy, and general wellbeing with something more effective than oral supplements
  • Those preparing for or recovering from a significant event — travel, a wedding, a demanding work period

What's in the Drip?

The specific formulation used at Haus of Hebe is not something we're able to publicly list — New Zealand advertising law restricts the specific promotion of therapeutic formulations. What we can say is that IV Hydration Therapy uses a sterile isotonic fluid solution designed for intravenous use.

During your consultation, Amy will walk you through exactly what will be administered, why it is appropriate for you, and answer any questions you have about the ingredients.

What Happens During a Session

Every appointment at Haus of Hebe begins with a consultation — always, and it is included in your appointment time. No client receives any IV therapy without a thorough health screening and physical assessment first. This is not optional. It is the clinical standard that makes safe treatment possible.

Once your consultation is complete and your treatment is confirmed, your IV session proceeds as follows:

  1. You arrive at the treatment room at 301 Kohimarama Road, St Heliers. There is a dedicated parking space in the driveway.
  2. Amy places a small IV cannula in the forearm. This is done accurately and efficiently — expect it to be comfortable.
  3. The infusion runs for most of your appointment, depending on your treatment. You are monitored throughout. You can read, use your phone, or simply sit with the harbour view.
  4. After the infusion concludes, there is a brief observation period before you leave.
  5. You go home feeling noticeably better — most clients report the difference within 1–3 hours.

Is IV Hydration Therapy Safe?

When administered by a qualified clinician in appropriate clinical conditions, IV hydration therapy is safe. The key word is qualified. IV therapy introduces substances directly into the bloodstream — it is a clinical procedure, not a beauty treatment, and it should be treated as one.

At Haus of Hebe, all IV therapy is administered by Amy Cryer — a registered nurse with 15 years of clinical experience across emergency care, intensive care, postoperative care, research and acute pain management. Every new client completes a thorough health screening and physical assessment before any IV is placed.

There are contraindications. IV therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have kidney or heart disease, have a known G6PD deficiency, or have an active illness should not receive IV therapy. This is exactly why the consultation comes first.
